Reinventing Södertälje

KTH - Urban studies master - Nordic public place studio
Tutors: Joakim Malmquist,
Mats Lundström, Andreas Forsberg

Södertälje reinventing itself from town to a city.

It might seem as one and fair enough it does not lack any of the formal aspects but it does not feel like a city. It grew too fast and too recklessly and now it simply does not work.

What makes a city - creates an idea of a place?
A public space or a sequence of public spaces where you sit down, exhale and let it sink in - the feeling that THIS is Södertälje.

Aim
Show Södertälje what is missing by framing a set of diverse public spaces in size, scale and enclosure by one building in its heart.
